HSS Students and Organizations Receive Many Year-End Scholarships and Awards

Student Leadership Awards Banquet

Congratulations to all the HSS students who were nominated for awards at the Student Leadership Awards Banquet on Wed., April 24, and especially we congratulate students who won the following awards:

  • Danielle Levine, History and Special Ed., Bessie Cutter Perlman ’25 Scholarship
  • Shap Bahary, Criminology, Harold W. Eickhoff Outstanding First-Year Student
  • Robyn Gold, English Sec. Ed., Elizabeth Allen 1869 Scholarship
  • Jamie Primeau, Journalism & Professional Writing, Dorothy Taylor Haas ’32 Award
  • Danielle Bazar, Self-Designed Major, John Wandishin ’79 Scholarship
  • Jennifer Doughan, English, Memorial Scholarship
  • Nicholas Lauda, Philosophy, Harold W. and Rosa Lee Eickhoff Scholarship
  • April Bullock, Women’s & Gender Studies and Deaf Ed., Outstanding Student Employee of the Year
  • Rachel Chlebowski, English and Comm. Studies, Emerging Leader of the Year
  • William Toth, History Sec. Ed., Emerging Leader of the Year
  • Theresa Genthe, Political Science and Women’s & Gender Studies, Outstanding Student Leader of the Year
  • Christina Kopka, Spanish and Marketing, Outstanding Student Leader of the Year

All in all, 14 individual students were recognized with individual awards at this event; of those students thus recognized, 11 had an HSS major.   Now here’s another statistic: HSS students make up just about one third of the total enrollment in the college.  Since everyone receiving the weekly message in which this information is being announced is a student, teacher, or supporter of the humanities and social sciences, all of you have great critical thinking skills.  Therefore, I will ask you to draw your own conclusions about this fact:  86% of the award winners were HSS students, but HSS students constitute only 35% of the College’s enrollment.

Who’s Who Awards

In addition, the following HSS students were among those recognized with Who’s Who Awards at Wednesday’s banquet: Devin Dimmig (History Sec Ed), Taylor Enoch (Self-Designed Major), Katrina Notarmaso (Political Science), and Regina Zick (Psychology).

Blue and Gold Awards

These two HSS students were among those recognized with Blue and Gold Awards at the banquet:  Max Bernstein (Philosophy) and Tyler Liberty (English).

Student Organization Awards

Student organizations were also recognized at this banquet.  Many of these organizations have leaders and members with HSS majors, so we congratulate them, too:

  • Lions EMS for Excellence in Service to TCNJ
  • Student Government’s Youth Outreach Day for Excellence in Service to the Greater Trenton Area
  • Delta Epsilon Psi’s Delta Clinic for Excellence in Advocacy
  • Alpha Phi Omega’s Kids’ Day Out for Excellence in Collaborative Programming
  • Union Latina’s De Novo for Excellence in Collaborative Programming (this event was cosponsored by World Languages & Cultures and the School of H&SS)
  • Union Latina’s Gala de la Raza for Excellence in Diversity
  • Student Government’s Drink Responsibly Campaign for Excellence in Sustainability
  • WILL’s Redefining Sex Week for Outstanding New Student Program of the Year
  • Zeta Tau Alpha’s Pink Out Week for Outstanding Student Program of the Year
  • Alpha Phi Omega’s Kids’ Day Out for Programming Legacy Award

 President’s Cup Award

And congratulations to the A-Z Seven Year Medical Society for winning the President’s Cup Award for the student organization with the highest collective GPA.  This win broke the previously held winning streak of the Society for Parliamentary Debate and we challenge members of these two clubs, and all others, to strive to win this coveted trophy in 2014.

Outstanding Female Scholar-Athlete

Congratulations to Rachel Morris, who was recognized as Outstanding Senior Female Scholar-Athlete.  Rachel participates in cross-country and track and she is a Political Science Major with a concentration in Environmental Studies.
